- 2 to 5 players
- 10 to 40 min play time
- Card game with Tile board
- high quality Meeples
Played a few games and over all this game is really impressive. My first impression are that its Crononauts for people who like the idea of Crononauts but don't like playing Crononauts. To continue the allusion, the Tile board is set up very similar to (the game I will stop naming, because its already getting tedious to repeat) except it is placed out randomly instead of in timeline order. So, faster set up. Instead of having 2 secret goals and one public goal, everyone has one goal, catch the villain! The game sets up and cleans up real fast.
So the game plays very similar to the game that shall not be named during game play, in that it follows the basic formula draw a card then do an action. Actions are move to the next tile in the future the slow way, play a card and do what it says, or draw and play the top card of the deck. The villain will over the course of the game destroy chunks of time, move around, and generally be a pain in the ass for the players trying to catch him. The card types are:
- Move actions
- Jump Actions
- Time stop - think counter cards
- Villain cards - moves the villain away from where you don't want him, or towards where you do want him.
Like that other game, there is a no one wins scenario. If the villain ends up back at Time Cop HQ without being escorted there by anyone, they have just learned the error of their ways and turned themselves in! No credit for anyone!
I really enjoyed this, and really did not find any critical issues with the design. I am expecting to see about a million versions of this game as they get licences to rebrand it. Expect to see "Where in time is Carmen Sandiego - Time Breaker" and "Milo Murphy's Law - Time Breaker" at some point in the future. TLDR - Its fun, its reasonably priced, it will be reprinted like Flux is. I'll give it 9 out of 10 Paradoxs.
